How gang sheets work

A gang sheet is one long strip of transfer film with all of your designs printed on it. You are charged for the LENGTH of film your designs take up, so the tighter they pack, the less you pay. This page explains how to get the best result.

Pay for what you use

Our builder arranges your designs automatically and charges you for the length actually used. Many suppliers only sell fixed sizes, so if your designs need 26 inches you pay for 36. Here you pay for 26.

The live price updates as you add, resize or duplicate designs.

Prepare your files

  • PNG with a transparent background. The printer builds the white ink layer from the transparency, so a JPEG, or a PNG with a white box behind the design, prints that box. If your file still has a background we will spot it and offer to remove it for you in one click, free. We keep your original, so you can undo it.
  • 300 DPI at the size you want it printed. A 4 inch wide design needs to be about 1200 pixels wide.
  • Trim the empty space around your artwork. Extra transparent padding is treated as part of the design and takes up paid space.
  • Outline or flatten your text before exporting so fonts cannot shift.

Sizing

If your file has a print size saved in it, we read it. Most files exported from web tools do not, so we make a sensible guess and mark it. Always check the width and height before ordering.

Changing the width keeps the proportions, so your design never gets stretched.

Spacing between designs

Spacing is the gap left around each design so they can be cut apart. It matters more than people expect: a small change can add or remove a whole column, which moves the price in steps rather than smoothly.

The spacing table shows what each option costs, and the cheapest one is highlighted. If you press designs at home and cut by hand, choose a wider gap and pay a little more.

Rotation

We rotate designs 90 degrees when it makes the sheet shorter. If a design contains text or has to sit a specific way, switch off "may rotate" for that design.

After you order

We build a print-ready file at 300 DPI with the transparency intact and send it straight to production. You do not need to download anything yourself.

Common problems

  • Design flagged as a problem: it has no transparency, or it is too low resolution for the size you asked for. Re-export it and upload again.
  • Design will not fit: it is wider than the usable roll. Reduce the width, or allow rotation.
  • Blurry print: the file was enlarged past its real resolution. Pixels cannot be added after the fact.
